Sustainable and cost-effective material re-use options
Where it can be demonstrated that a specific type of waste can safely be used for another purpose, rather than being disposed of in accordance with the waste regulations, the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) may exempt the waste generator (Resource Recovery Order) or Waste Receiver (Resource Recovery Exemption) from the following provisions of the Protection of the Environment Operations (POEO) Act and the NSW Waste Regulations.
There are numerous current resource recovery orders and exemptions in place with some of the more commonly used exemptions including:
- Excavated Natural Material (ENM)
- Excavated Public Road
- Recovered Aggregate
- Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement
Alternatively, if you do not meet any existing exemption criteria RCA Australia can assist you to to develop your own site specific exemptions in consultation with the EPA.
